ON WINGS OF HEALING The Story of the Airborne Medical Services 1940-1960

ON WINGS OF HEALING
The Story of the Airborne Medical Services 1940-1960
A fine and inspiring record of service and sacrifice, this history of the medical service who trained, jumped and landed with the airbourne troops of the Second World War is a tribute to brave men who served humanity.
With the development during the Second World War of glider-and parachute borne troops as a separate arm of the regular Army, the need was recognised for and Airbourne Medical Service to fly, jump and land with the front-line soldiers. This book describes how the Service was formed in 1941 - largely due to the foresight and energy of its Senior Medical Officer, Brigadier A.Austin Eagger - and of the subsequent campaigns in which it took part. These include: North Africa, Italy, Greece, Normandy, Arnhem, and the Rhine. Originally published in 1963, and now re-issued by the Naval & Military Press, this is a fine and inspiring record of service and sacrifice in the field.
