Scinde 1843

The campaign was undertaken to punish the Amirs of Scinde for attacks on British convoys to and from Afghanistan. The two major battles - Meeanee and Hyderabad - saw the complete route of the enemy, and British troops then withdrew. The 22nd Foot especially distinguished themselves during the campaign. The campaign is noteworthy for the punning single word telegram 'PECCAVI" ('I have sinned' in Latin) reporting the capture of Sind by the British commander, General Sir Charles Napier.
